It was there that he began to sing, continuing in his father's tavern "El Punto", where songs from amateur throats that came from workers from the municipal slaughterhouse and from the fields sprouted daily. Shortly after he began to make his first performances.

At the age of 21 he began to sing for the dance. At that time, he met his wife, the bailaora Carmen Lozano, who danced at the flamenco tablao "Los Gallos" in Seville and through her, he met people who supported him and suggested that he sing at "El Tablao". From there she went to the flamenco tablao "El Cordobés" in Barcelona, ​​where Carmen Lozano performed and Rafael accompanied her with his cante. Since then, she began to sing for figures such as Cristina Hoyos, Joaquín Cortes, Antonio Canales, the Andalusian Dance Company, Israel Galván, Farruquito, Eva "La Yerbabuena", Güito, Manuela Carrasco and others. He also had the honor of accompanying guitarists such as Tomatito, Gerardo Núñez, José Antonio Rodríguez, Juan Carlos Romero, Vicente Amigo and Paco de Lucía. and also, he has accompanied great pianists such as David Peña Dorante, Shai Maestro, Juan Carlos Carvallo and others.

His career is very intense but it has been in recent years when he is taking leaps and bounds. He thinks that singing for the dance or solo, gives confidence and ease and there are different facets that must be passed. To talk about his artistic influences we cannot think of a single figure. Paco de Lucía heard about Rafael de Utrera from some friends. Then Paco suggested that he participate in a tour, something that was extraordinary for him. And it was a world tour, they toured Europe, Asia, the United States and Alaska. They performed in crowded theaters with more than four and five thousand spectators. The foreign public that has true admiration and curiosity for flamenco respects it and studies it as a privilege of a few. Those themes, interpreted to perfection and performed cante in their own way, made a perfect fusion that will remain forever in the memory of each of the spectators.

Rafael de Utrera has collaborated on records by numerous artists such as José Mercé, José Antonio Rodríguez, Niño de Pura, the documentary on the life of Paco de Lucía. Add various collaborations with the genius Vicente Amigo, appearing in the song "Azules y Corinto" from the album "Paseo de Gracia", and that together with Alejandro Sanz, Enrique Morente and Niña Pastori among others, appear on Vicente's latest album "Memoria de los Sentidos", an unpublished DVD called "Patios de Córdoba", bring the album "Tierra" to life in concert. Internationally, he has also collaborated with great performers, such as the one made with the Metropol orchestra of the Netherlands, under the direction of Vince Mendoza, where a live album called “Proyecto Lorca” was recorded. Rafael de Utrera has performed solo shows with great success in America and Europe and currently, in addition to accompanying maestro Vicente Amigo, one of the most important guitarists worldwide, he is developing his solo career with great expectation, counting on very important projects. and the recording of his album that will feature great and exciting collaborations.

Rafael de Utrera is widely recognized and has won several awards in his career. Such as the Flamenco Festival of Nîmes (France), the 1st prize of Seguiriyas in the Cante de las Minas Contest in La Unión, the Mostachón de Oro of his town, Utrera and among others. Of notable performance, it was in the celebration of the 40th anniversary of the Spanish Constitution, where he performed together with the Trío Arbós as a star and guest artist. Closing the year 2018, for two weeks he was a participating artist in the four decades of the birth of the National Classical Ballet, where with his voice, flamenco singing was fused with classical ballet, forming an elegant tandem between two twinned styles.
